I have a passion for working with brands to create light, bright, and elegant content that remains simple and approachable for the everyday busy baker.
Bonjour! I'm Danielle.
Soft and chewy cookies with hints of espresso and vanilla topped with a vanilla coffee glaze and a delicate latte heart pattern. Coffee fans will love these a latte!
Key Ingredients
These cookies are the perfect balance of soft and chewy using flour, baking soda, baking powder, espresso powder, salted butter, brown sugar, sugar, eggs, and vanilla. The coffee flavor comes from the use of espresso powder. I use King Arthur brand which packs a lot of punch in only 2 teaspoons. Using vanilla bean paste captures a lovely vanilla flavor and also leaves pretty little vanilla bean specks in the cookies. If you don’t have vanilla bean paste, you can use a high-quality vanilla extract.
Decorating Notes
These cookies are topped with a vanilla coffee glaze and a latte heart pattern. When decorating the cookies, I recommend decorating one cookie at a time. Start by spreading the coffee glaze on the cookie, then immediately follow by piping small white dots around the cookie. The glaze needs to still be wet in order for the pattern to turn out properly. Use a toothpick or a decorating scribe to pull through each dot in a circular motion around the edge of the cookie. The dots will then resemble the cutest little hearts!

Preheat the oven to 375°F and line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.
In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and espresso powder. Set aside.
In a large bowl, beat together the butter, brown sugar, and sugar until fluffy. Add the eggs and vanilla bean paste. Beat until fully combined.
Add the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients and beat on low until the dough comes together.
Use a medium scoop to portion the dough. Roll into balls and place at least 2 inches apart on a baking sheet. Use the bottom of a drinking glass to slightly flatten the top of each dough ball.
Bake for 8-9 minutes. The cookies will puff up in the oven, but will flatten as they cool.
Vanilla Coffee Glaze and Latte Art Glaze
While the cookies are cooling, make the glazes. To make the coffee glaze, combine powdered sugar, coffee, and vanilla extract in a medium bowl. Stir until smooth.
To make the latte art glaze, combine the powdered sugar and milk in a small bowl and stir until smooth. Transfer to a small piping bag (or use a zip-loc bag) and snip off a very small corner.
Decorate the cookies
Make sure the cookies have fully cooled before decorating.
Focusing on one cookie at a time, first apply the coffee glaze using a teaspoon or knife. While the coffee glaze is still wet, pipe 7 dots evenly in a circle around the cookie. Use a toothpick or a scribe to pull through each dot in one circular motion around the entire cookie. The dots will take on the shape of hearts!
